Tractor winches

The splitting works best on a hard, level surface. A piece of thick plywood under the wood protects the axe from becoming dull.

Begin splitting the block of wood from the edges - it's easier that way.

Select the splitting point carefully by placing the wedge where you want to split the wood.

Use of Wedge Axe:

Lift the striking bar up. The striking bar slides up and down inside the tube extending upwards from the wedge-shaped point and the wedge blade remains constantly in place;

Strike the striking bar down and it will cause the wedge point to embed itself in the wood. You can strike softly or hard - just as you like - and use repeated blows as necessary.

Each repeated blow spreads the same crack in the wood, not a single blow misses the mark.  Due to the accuracy of the splitting action, you can benefit from existing cracks in the wood and also go around knotty parts.  Your working posture remains straight, which means reduced strain on your back.  The split firewood is formed into suitable bundles for carrying and for drying quickly.

Ergonomy

A tire, or the LM900 carrier with a splitting base helps keeping the wood upright for splitting.
